Box Score

The Nanooks were this close to beating Cal State Monterey Bay, but saw their first victory of the season fade away while the Otters sealed the game at the free throw line in overtime, 90-86.

The Blue and Gold erased a 13 point first half deficit, but could not hold on to a narrow lead in the second half, with a game that featured 11 ties, and seven ties.

With the Nanooks leading by two, the Otters Dante Green stepped to the free throw line with 42 seconds left in regulation and made both. On Alaska's next possession with a chance to take the lead for good, center Kyle Risch (Norwalk, CT) committed a turnover with 26 seconds to go. The Nanooks dodged a bullet as Otters Jose Sanchez missed a jumper with four seconds left and the teams would play an extra five minutes.

In overtime, with Monterey Bay holding onto a slight lead, the Nanooks were forced to foul and put the Otters on the line. However, Monterey Bay iced the game as they made their final eight shots from the charity stripe and would not give the Blue and Gold an opportunity to tie the game, and escaped with a four point victory.

Alaska was once again paced by junior Jon Moe (Granite Falls, WA), who scored a game high 29 points. Moe has led the Nanooks in scoring in the first three games. Emmanuel Jenkins (Tacoma, WA) had his best game of the season as he poured in 25 points on 9-25 shooting from the field.

Nashorn Maynard recorded his second double-double in as many games with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Maynard continues to play very consistent for Coach Johnson and the Nanooks.

Alaska will return home from California winless at 0-3. There first two games were against teams picked to finish first and second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Monterey Bay was their best opportunity for a win, and this one will hurt the most out of the three.

The winless Nanooks must re-group before heading to Hawaii for another three game road trip. Their next game is Dec. 3 at Hawaii-Pacific.
