Box Score
The Nanooks let one slip away at Cal State San Bernardino, as they could not hold a second half lead, and lose to the Coyotes by 22, 87-65.
The Blue and Gold got off to a fast start behind guard Jon Moe (Granite Falls, WA) who poured in 13 of his team high 20 points in the first half. The Nanooks ran out to a 23-9 lead out of the gates and would have a six point advantage at halftime, 41-35.
The second half would be a different story. Alaska would struggle from the field, and San Bernardino would heat up, especially from behind the arc. The Coyotes Ryan Kinney had 21 points in the game on seven three pointers. Kinney would hit five of those seven three’s in the second half for the surging Coyotes.
It was a different story for the Alaska from three-point land. Moe was just 4-12 from three point land, while his teammates didn’t hit any of their three’s as they shot just 21% (4-19).
Trailing by just two with 8:07 left in half two, the Coyotes would finish the game on a 29-9 run, and hand the Nanooks their second loss of the season.
Sophomore Nashorn Maynard (Saint Paul, Saint Kitts) was a force on both ends for the Nanooks in the loss finishing with a double-double of 16 points (7-10 FG) and 12 rebounds.
Alaska will play it last game of the California road trip before on Tuesday night against Cal State Monterey Bay before heading to Hawaii for three games. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 AKT.
