Nanooks Lose Big in Season Opener

The first game of the 2008-09 season was not one to remember for the Nanooks men's basketball team. The Blue and Gold lost big on the first game of their road trip to Cal State Dominguez Hills, 98-62.

The Nanooks were run out of the Torodome from the beginning whistle. Dominguez Hills came out and shot 51% from the field in the first half. The Nanooks faced a 39-24 deficit at halftime.

The Nanooks saw more of the same from the hot shooting Toro's in the second half, as the game got out of control for the Blue and Gold. The Toro lead would climb as big as 44 points. Dominguez Hills shot 54% for the game, compared to just 36% for Alaska.

(Granite Falls, WA) was the leading scorer for the Nanooks with 15 points on 6-12 shooting. Colin Matteson (Lynnwood, WA) was the second leading scorer for Alaska with 12 points.

The Nanooks will look to rebound from the ugly loss at Dominguez Hills as the travel to San Bernardino and take on Cal State San Bernardino tomorrow night at 3:00 p.m.
