Fairbanks, AK - The Alaska Nanooks set a new record for fewest points allowed in an 86-36 win over Golden State Baptist College Saturday afternoon at the Patty Center. The Nanooks (6-4) had every player score at least five points in the rout of the Bears (3-5).
Alaska held Golden State to just 10 points in the first half to help set the new mark for opponent scoring futility in a game. The previous record was 37 against Puget Sound Christian in Nov. 6, 2004.
Junior guard Kenny Barker (San Diego, CA) scored a game-high 17 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while junior guard Mike Titus (Fairbanks, AK) broke out of a slump with 13 to hit double digit scoring for the first time in five games. Junior point guard Barry Barnes Jr. (Long Beach, CA) had a career-high 12 assists to go with six points, six boards and four steals.
Junior point guard Shawn Jackson led the Bears with 11 points.
The Nanooks held Golden State without a field goal for the first 8:30 to build an 18-0 advantage. The lead swelled to 45-10 at the half, as the Bears shot 21 percent from the field and 0-for-7 on three-pointers.
The smaller Bears watched in the first half as the Nanooks shoot 56 percent and grabbed 10 offensive rebounds on 15 misses. Alaska slowed offensively in the second half but continued their dominance on the boards to build a 58-26 advantage.
Alaska will face Augustana (Dec. 8) and Florida Tech (Dec. 9) in the Glacier Classic at the Patty Center. Both games will tip at 7:00 p.m. AST. The University of Alaska Anchorage will play Florida Tech (Dec. 8) and Augustana (Dec. 9) with both contests starting at 5:00 p.m. AST.
