Box Score

BOTHELL, WA - The Alaska Nanooks swim team was defeated by Seattle University Friday evening, as the Redhawks outscored the Nanooks 155-48 in the teams' first meet of the weekend.

Alaska freshman Kelly Becker (Tualatin, OR) earned the only NCAA "B" qualifying time, the first by a Nanook swimmer since the program was reinstated, when she won the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:41.16. Becker came back to finish second in the 100 butterfly, finishing just 36/100ths of a second behind Seattle's Lindsey Gall to set a Nanook record.

Gall, Kristie Riceand, and Elizabeth Hanohano each won two individual events to lead the Redhawks in their victory.

Samantha Zinsli (Kennewick, WA) came in second in the 200 freestyle (2:01.04) behind Seattle's Hanohano (1:59.99), just off her team record. She also placed 3rd in the 500 yd freestyle with a time of 5:21.66, a time she had just achieved near the end of the season last year.

A third team record was broken when Jacqueline vanDriessche (Seward, AK) finished 3rd in the 100 yd breaststroke with a 1:10.73.

The Nanooks remain winless on the season and winless in three meetings with the Redhawks. Because of mechanical problems with the competition pool at the Connolly Center, the meet was moved to Bothell. The two teams will turn right around and jump back into competition again Saturday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m. at the Northshore Pool.
