The defending NCAA national champion Alaska Nanooks rifle team wrapped up a four-match road trip with a victory over the University of Texas-El Paso on Saturday evening.

Alaska coach Dan Jordan inserted freshmen Billy Galligan and Jace Bures into the smallbore lineup for the match and the Nanooks prevailed by a 41-point margin, 4,647 to 4,607.

"We did all right," Alaska coach Dan Jordan said of the match. "We put Billy and Jace in the lineup in smallbore and it was a good experience for both of them."

The Nanooks won the smallbore event by a score of 2,294 to 2,282 and captured the air rifle position of the meet 2,354 to 2,325.

Senior Christian Lejon led the Nanooks smallbore team with a 581, followed by senior Matt Rawlings and Galligan with scores of 574 and Bures with a 565.

Jordan used his regular lineup in the air rifle event.

Freshman Patrik Sartz notched a team-high 592, followed by senior Matthias Dierolf with a 591, Lejon with a 589 and Rawlings with a 582.

"Nobody shot great, but they all shot decent," Jordan said.

Dierolf and Sartz posted smallbore scores of 581 and 575, respectively, as non-counting members of the team, while Galligan had a 578 and Bures registered a 576 in air gun.

The Nanooks are now 6-0 this season and are 18-0 in dual meets since Jordan took as head coach prior to the 2005-06 season.

Alaska returns to action next semester with a four-match road trip to the Palmyra Invitational on Jan. 14 in Pennsylvania, at Army on Jan. 16, at Philadelphia Sciences on Jan. 18 and at Navy on Jan. 19.
