NAMPA, Idaho - The Alaska Nanooks dropped the final match of their three-stop Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip 4 games to 1 against Northwest Nazarene at the Johnson Sports Center Oct. 31. The Crusaders (13-12 overall, 8-7 GNAC) took down the Nanooks (6-15, 5-9) by scores of 30-25, 30-26, 28-30, 30-25. The Nanooks finished their road schedule just 1-7 but they didn't go down quietly in Nampa, staying competitive in each game.
Four Alaska players notched double figure kills led by freshman Megan Thigpen (Spokane, WA), who finished with a match-high 20 kills. Junior Jessica King (Hailey, ID) and freshman Sarah Lowry (Calgary, AB) both posted double double efforts for the Nanooks. King had 13 kills and 10 digs, while Lowry finished with 10 kills and a match-high 18 digs. Senior Katrina Jensen (Federal Way, WA) chipped in 10 kills and setter Alexa Sherman (Calabasas, CA) had a match-high 41 assists.
Alaska had match-highs in aces (10) and digs (67) but couldn't overcome the NNU attack. The Crusaders offense came out on all cylinders and hit an impressive .517 in Game 1. NNU outhit Alaska in the match .240 (just 19 attack errors) to .153 (35 attack errors) and also out-blocked the Nanooks 12-9.
Lindsay Forseth posted a career-high 16 kills and hit a match-best .424 as she committed just two hitting errors in 33 total attacks. Lindsey Fryer and Allison James had 10 kills apiece for the Crusaders.
The Nanooks close the season with Senior Night at the Patty Center against in-state rival UAA on Saturday at 7 p.m. Admission is free for students, faculty, staff, alumni and children eighth grade and younger. The Associated Students of UAF will (weather permitting) be hosting a free Seawolf Grill outside the Patty Center doors prior to the game.
