Beyerle Shines In Bangkok World Cup, Heads To Australia

University of Alaska Fairbanks sophomore Jamie Beyerle must know how rock stars feel when they go on tour. Beyerle, who is a standout on the UAF National Championship Rifle Team, just finished competing in the Bangkok World Cup Event in Bangkok, Thailand and is currently heading to Sydney, Australia for the Sydney World Cup. That competition will begin Saturday, February 28. And Beyerle certainly did well during her time in Thailand. She won the bronze medal in the 50-meter 3 Positon Rifle Event and finished in a three-way tie for 26th in the 10-meter Air Rifle Event. Shan Hong of China and Lioubov Galkina of Russia were separated by .4 at the top of the 3-Position competition with Hong firing a 682.3 total to take the gold medal. Galkina finished second at 681.9. Beyerle, who made a late charge, finished in third at 678.5. Chengyi Wang of China was fourth with a final total of 678.2. Beyerle made up a lot of ground late in the competition, moving ahead of people on almost every shot. She moved to within three of Lessia Leskiv of the Ukraine on the ninth shot of the competition and captured the bronze medal on the final shot by piercing the heart of the target. Leskiv ended up fifth overall. The air rifle competition didn't go as well for Beyerle. The Lebanon, PA native finished 26th in the individual standings. Beyerle fired a respectable 391 out of a possible 400. She had rounds of 97-98-97-99. Galkina won the air rifle event with a perfect 400. Li Du of China finished second with teammate Jing Gao in third. The highest American in the event was Emily Caruso in 17th with a 394. -30-
