Five members of the women’s cross country team, and four members of the men’s cross country were recognized for excelling in the classroom, as they were members of the GNAC all-academic team.
This is familiar territory for three of the UAF women. For seniors Elisabeth Habermann (Soldotna, AK), Julia Pierson (Traverse City, MI), and Anna Coulter (Traverse City, MI) this is their third time making the team.
Julia, a biology major (3.70 GPA) and twin sister Anna, a business major (3.56 GPA) continued their dedication to academics in their last year as a Nanook. Habermann, a chemistry major (3.86 GPA), has the highest GPA between both Nanook teams.
Two first time members joined the women’s academic team. Junior Amber Drumm (Salcha, AK), an art major with a GPA of 3.56, and senior mechanical engineer major Aurelia Korthauer (Soldotna, AK, 3.39) round out the recipients for the women.
To be recognized on the GANC Academic Team, the student-athlete must post a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or better.
All four members of the academic team on the men’s side were first time honorees. Senior Chris Eversman (Slacha, AK) a chemistry major, carrier a 3.83 GPA. In his last collegiate race for the Nanooks at the DII Western Regional, Eversman finished in 60th place.
Junior anthropology major John Parry (Whitehorse, Yukon Territory), with a 3.45 GPA, is on the skiing team as well. Fellow duel sport athletes, Einar Often (Tynset, Norway) and Robert Pakk (Tartu, Estonia), found their names on the academic team with a 3.68 GPA in economics and a 3.37 in Psychology, respectively.
Over a third of the Nanook cross country runners were honored on the academic team. With the season over, they should have even more time to concentrate on their schoolwork and increase their grade point averages.
