Last year was Weiland's first year with the Alaska Nanooks. In her inaugural year with the 'Nooks, Weiland oversaw Sophomore Oda Bygdnes qualify for NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships and earn her Division II All-American honors, and led the Nanooks to a 7th place finish at the PCSC Conference Championships. 

Weiland's first stint as a collegiate coach was for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as an assistant coach. With the Badgers, Weiland assisted UW swimmers in breaking 13 school records, 5 Big Ten Conference records, oversaw 3 swimmers earn NCAA DI All-America statuses, and saw 3 others named Division I All-America Honorable Mentions. 

Weiland was a four-year letter-winner for swimming at the University of Minnesota from 2011-2015. As a student-athlete, Weiland racked up an impressive resume, which included four consecutive B1G Ten Conference titles, breaking B1G Ten Conference Records in the 100-yard Butterfly and 200-yard Freestyle Relay records, earned four consecutive appearances at the NCAA DI Swimming and Diving National Championships, earned 13 NCAA Division I All-American Honors, and multiple B1G Ten Conference First Team and Second Team honors. Additionally, Weiland competed in both 2012 and 2016 United States Olympic Swimming Trials.

Out of the pool, Weiland was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, and graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota's College of Education and Human Development.

Weiland graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Minnesota in 2015 with an emphasis in coaching and earned her master’s degree in College Counseling and Student Development from St. Cloud State University in May 2017.
