Kestel attended Juneau-Douglas High School in Juneau, Alaska. Alongside track & field, Kestel played football. On the field, he was a 2024 All-State punter, second-team All-Conference wide receiver, Academic Award winner, and the Special Teams MVP. In track & field, he was a five-time region gold medalist (Region 5), the 2025 Region 5 MVP, a two-time Team MVP, two-time team captain, three-time state finalist, and a third-place finisher at Alaska State Championships for triple jump.
