Nanooks Make it Four Straight Over Alaska Anchorage with Halloween Victory

FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks volleyball team made it four-straight victories over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves on Friday, Oct. 31 with a 3-1 win in the Alaska Airlines Center. The four-match win streak ties the second-longest win streak against UAA. The longest is five and ran from Nov. 4, 2006 to Oct. 15, 2008.

How it Happened
Alaska Anchorage came out and picked up the first set win 25-17. They outhit the Nanooks 13-9 with only four errors while the Nanooks had seven errors and a .054 hit percentage. The Seawolves also added two aces while both sides had one block each. In the second, both offenses showed up and posted strong numbers but it was the Nanooks who came out on top, 25-19. 

Alaska used a 15 kill (.333) offensive showing to grab the second and tie the match at 1-1. They added two aces and two blocks in the second for the equalizing set. UAA posted a strong set as well with a dozen kills and a pair of aces, but the Nanooks prevailed. In the third, Alaska posted a match-high 16 kills while swinging .278. They added a pair of blocks in the third to take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth, the two sides traded runs. Down the stretch, the Nanooks found their final stride and pulled out the fourth set 25-22 for a 3-1 win. 

Inside the Box

  • Haylee Lyons led the Nanooks offense with 16 kills and a .343 swing percentage behind 35 total attacks. She added five digs, three blocks, and an assist. 
  • Elena Guc added added 15 kills with a team-high .378 swing percentage. She added two blocks and two digs in the victory. 
  • Mikala Henderson finished the night with 10 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. She added one block. Cynphany Henderson posted another huge game for the Nanooks, ending the night with 25 assists, 19 digs, and eight kills, just missing out of a triple-double. She added two blocks in the win. 
  • Peri Hoshock led Alaska at the net with five blocks. She added four digs and three kills in the win. 
  • Tessa Onaga added 18 digs in the victory, finishing with nine assists and an ace. Kellan Flynn had a team-high two aces. 
  • Ainsley Smith shared the distribution and had 17 assists and seven digs in the Nanooks win. 
What's to Come
The Nanooks return home next week and face Western Washington and Simon Fraser on Nov. 6 and Nov. 8.
