FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks swimming team is set for its home opener this weekend with two dual meets vs. the Puget Sound Loggers on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Last Time Out
The 'Nooks opened their season on the road earlier this month, facing Fresno Pacific in two dual PCSC meets at Bullard High School in Fresno, Calif. The Blue & Gold won 18 out of 22 events over the two meets and earned victories of 144-61 and 126-71.
Dorka Dancsok and Kitti Marton both won four individual events over the weekend, with Dancsok winning the 200-yard IM (2:13.50), 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.38), 400-yard IM (4:43.46) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.13), while Marton took first in the 1650-yard freestyle (18:23.05), 500-yard freestyle (5:22.50), 1000-yard freestyle (11:24.55) and 500-yard freestyle again (5:22.06).

- Dorka Dancsok ranks second in the PCSC in the 50 (31.34), 100 (1:07.38) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.13). Macy Ahrens ranks right behind in third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.63).
- Dancsok holds the fourth-best time in the conference for the 400-yard IM (4:43.46) and the seventh-best time for the 200-yard IM (2:13.50).
- Talia Wentz is currently 10th in the PCSC in the 50-yard freestyle after her 25.11 finish in the meet vs. Fresno Pacific.
- Janci Pangburn sits in 10th in the conference for the 100-yard freestyle, posting a 54.60 vs. the Sunbirds.
- Kitti Marton has been one of the top distance swimmers in the PCSC to start this season, with her times of 5:22.06 and 11:07.98 (extracted) ranking ninth and eighth in the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle, respectively. Meanwhile, her 18:23.05 in the 1650-yard freestyle puts her fourth in the conference and 10th in Division II.
- The 'Nooks rank fifth in the PCSC in the 400-yard medley relay with a 4:03.65. The team of McKenzie Fazio, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel and Janci Pangburn set that time vs. FPU.

- This is the Loggers' first meet of the 2025-26 season.
- The Loggers are coming off a third-place finish at the NWC Conference Meet last season.
- The 'Nooks and the Loggers have faced each other head-to-head once since 2006-07, swimming in a tri-meet meet alongside Simon Fraser on Jan. 12, 2013. Alaska, who was ranked 21st in the country at the time, defeated Puget Sound 80-37, but fell 75-44 to No. 15 Simon Fraser at the Paul and Margaret Savage Pool in Burnaby, B.C.

Looking Ahead
The Nanooks are back in action next week, hosting the Simon Fraser Red Leafs for two dual meets at the Patty Center Pool on Oct. 31-Nov. 1. These will be their last home meets of 2025, with their next time competing in the Patty Pool coming on Jan. 16-17 vs. Westmont.
