FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks participated in their last home meet of the season on Saturday morning, celebrating their seniors while taking on Westmont in a dual meet. Following their success yesterday, Alaska won all 11 events for the second consecutive meet, defeating the Warriors 158-47.
The day began with the 200 medley relay, which saw Alaska take the top two spots in the event. The team of Charlotte Fletcher-Stables, Dorka Dancsok, Cosima Schmiedel and Janci Pangburn took the top spot in the relay, finishing in 1:50.06.
Tori Shoemaker took first in the 1000 freestyle, posting a 10:59.27 and finishing 15.5 seconds in front of Payton Wojciechowicz in second. Sam Bristor (2:02.49) led the way in the 200 freestyle, while Pangburn (2:03.76) and Jordan O'Connor (2:04.40) took second and fourth, respectively. Ali Pecore followed up by winning the 50 freestyle in 25.45, with Fletcher-Stables finishing behind her in second with a 25.56. Adeline Berry wrapped up the points finishers for the 'Nooks in the event, swimming to a time of 26.85 to take fourth place.
Up next was the 400 IM, where Schmiedel (4:53.88) and Naomi Burgan (4:56.23) took the top two spots in the event, and Charisma Watkins (5:04.13) followed in fourth. Dancsok collected her first win of the day in the 200 butterfly, where she finished her race in 2:13.26, over seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Berry finished her race in fourth, posting a time of 2:26.16. The seventh event of the day saw Alaska's first 1-2-3 finish of the meet, as Pangburn (53.74), Eva Markovic (56.27) and Pecore (56.48) took the top three spots in the 100 freestyle.
Fletcher-Stables took first place in the 200 backstroke, recording a 2:09.09 in the event. O'Connor posted a 2:15.28 to take second place. In the 500 freestyle, the 'Nooks notched their second 1-2-3 finish of the day, as Shoemaker (5:26.29), Burgan (5:33.22) and Wojciechowicz (5:35.96) led the way. Dancsok earned another victory in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:27.60. Schmiedel and Mayumi Schaetzle took third and fourth, logging times of 2:37.79 and 2:38.80.
Alaska concluded the meet with the 200 freestyle relay, where Pecore, O'Connor, Bristor and Pangburn helped the Nanooks record their 11th event victory of the day, finishing in 1:39.85.
The Blue & Gold are back in action on Feb. 12-15 at the PCSC Championships in Monterey Park, Calif., hosted at the ELAC Pool.
