FAIRBANKS - The Nanooks returned to the Patty Center Pool for the first time since Nov. 2 this afternoon, taking on Westmont College in their first of two dual meets this weekend and earning the 156-49 win. The 'Nooks took first in each event on the day.
The meet began with the 400 medley relay, which saw the team of Jordan O'Connor, Mayumi Schaetzle, Adeline Berry and Ali Pecore place first, finishing over 10 seconds ahead of the second-place team. They completed the relay in 4:07.37. Up next was the 1650 freestyle, where Tori Shoemaker and Payton Wojciechowicz placed 1-2 for the 'Nooks. Shoemaker took the top spot with an 18:09.55 and Wojciechowicz followed with an 18:38.75.
Pecore led the way in the 200 freestyle, earning the first-place finish by posting a 1:57.73. Charlotte Fletcher-Stables came in .05 seconds in front of the third-place finisher, taking second with a 2:01.22, while Cosima Schmiedel placed fourth with a 2:01.71. The fourth event of the afternoon saw Janci Pangburn finish the 50 freestyle in 24.41, leading the way for the 'Nooks. Sam Bristor (25.32) and Eva Markovic (25.76) completed the 1-2-3 for Alaska.
Dorka Dancsok picked up her first win of the day in the 200 IM, posting a 2:12.63 to finish 6.58 seconds ahead of second place. Charisma Watkins and Naomi Burgan followed in third and fourth, finishing the race in 2:20.99 and 2:21.32, respectively. Schmiedel and Berry took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly, swimming to times of 1:00.37 and 1:02.37 in the sixth event of the afternoon. Next up was the 100 freestyle, where O'Connor led the pack with a 54.02. Pangburn and Bristor logged second and third-place finishes for the Blue and Gold, recording times of 54.51 and 55.79.
Fletcher-Stables took home first-place honors in the 100 backstroke, completing her race in 59.21, while O'Connor (1:01.73) and Markovic (1:03.65) followed to give Alaska another 1-2-3 finish. Pecore earned her second first-place finish of the day in the 500 freestyle, logging a time of 5:23.40 to lead the way by 6.9 seconds. Burgan collected a third-place finish, posting a 5:30.31. Dancsok followed suit in the penultimate event of the day, taking first for the second time in the meet. She swam to a time of 1:08.14 in the 100 breaststroke, leading her teammate Schaetzle, who finished second in 1:12.51. Watkins followed with a 1:15.13, good for fourth place.
The final event of the day saw the two teams compete in the 400 freestyle relay, where the team of O'Connor, Pecore, Bristor and Pangburn took the top spot with a 3:40.59.
Alaska is back in the pool tomorrow for one more dual meet against Westmont beginning at 10 a.m.
