GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Alaska Nanooks fell to Michigan Tech on Thursday, Dec. 28 in the 2023 Great Lakes Invitational semifinals. The 3-2 OT loss sends the Nanooks to the GLI third-place game tomorrow at 11:37 a.m. AKST. They'll take on the loser of the Ferris State/Michigan State game.
Alaska got the scoring started 13:47 into the first on a
Chase Dubois tally. The forward found a rebound off of Michigan Tech goaltender Blake Pietila and battled through contact from behind to score the opening goal. The goal was confirmed after a review from the referees. The 1-0 lead stood through the first intermission as
Pierce Charleson added six saves in net for the Nanooks in the opening 20 minutes. In the second, the Nanooks played add-on, making it 2-0 on a
Brady Risk goal, his ninth of the season.
Harrison Israels battled for the puck and after repossessing it from Tech, found Risk out front of Pietila for the top-shelf goal off the crossbar.Â
This came 5:03 into the second and was the lone goal in the period. Alaska held a 2-0 lead heading into the third.
Michigan Tech got on the board 10:18 into the third as Ryland Mosley posted their first goal on a loose puck in front of the net. On the play, the Nanooks were called for a penalty, resulting in a Huskies power play which resulted in the equalizing goal. 1:48 later, Mosley tied the game at 2-2.Â
The 2-2 tie took the teams to overtime and only 35 seconds in, Logan Pietila scored the game-winner.Â
