FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swim team is back in action for the second-straight weekend at the Patty Center Pool. This weekend they welcome the Cal State East Bay Pioneers for a two-day dual-meet.

This weekend's matchup with East Bay will be streamed on the Alaska Nanooks YouTube channel for free. Friday's matchup begins at 5:00 p.m. with the live stream kicking off at 4:45 p.m. and Saturday's finale starts at 10:00 a.m. with the live stream beginning at 9:45 a.m.

- In the 1650 freestyle, the Nanooks have two individuals in the top-50 in Division II times. Payton Wojciechowicz posted a 19:07.15 on day one against APU, giving her the 41st-fastest time in the event in DII. Meah McCallum cracked the top-50 at 49 with a 20:11.15, also coming on day one.
- Charlotte Fletcher-Stables is T-42nd in the NCAA DII in the 50 backstroke after posting a time of 27.59 on day two of the APU dual-meet. She is also 49th in DII in the 100 backstroke with a day one time of 59.04.
- Dorka Dancsok is 25th in NCAA DII for the 100 breaststroke. She currently leads the PCSC in this event with a 1:06.36 posted on day one of the APU matchup.
- In the 200 breaststroke, she is 33rd in the nation with a day two time of 2:26.91.
- Dancsok is fourth in the nation for NCAA DII times with a 2:06.60 in the 200 IM. She posted that time on day one against APU. She currently sits in 12th in NCAA DII in the 400 IM with a day two time of 4:32.94.
- The Nanooks posted the 26th-fastest time in the 400 medley relay on day one against APU. Their relay team posted a 4:05.05 to nearly crack the top-25 for times in NCAA DII.
- The Nanooks are facing Cal State East Bay for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Since 2012, the Nanooks are winless against the Pioneers, falling in all five dual-meets.
- All matchups with the Pioneers have come at home - the closest meet came on Nov. 14, 2014 when the 'Nooks fell 105-100. They are averaging 95.8 points per meet against East Bay.
Freshman of the Week
Dorka Dancsok of the Alaska Nanooks' swim team was named the PCSC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 24. This came after the Nanooks' season-opening meets against Azusa Pacific in the Patty Pool on Oct. 20-21.
Dancsok had an incredible start to her collegiate career. On day one of the double dual-meet against the Cougars of APU, Dancsok posted a split time of 1:06.18 (BR) on the 400-yard medley relay. Alongside the relay successes, she picked up a pair of individual wins in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.60 and another win in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:06.36. She also added a split time of 53.91 in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Her time in the 200 IM is currently ranked number-one in the conference; she holds that top-spot by over four seconds. Her time in the 100 breaststroke is also ranked number-one in the conference.
On day two, Dancsok posted another pair of first-place finishes, this time in the 400-yard IM and the 200-yard breaststroke. In the 400 IM, she posted a winning time of 4:32.94, a time that places her in first in the conference by nearly four seconds. In the 200 breaststroke, she won with a time of 2:26.91, giving her her fourth #1-ranking in the conference and her fourth individual event win in her young career with the Nanooks.
What's to Come
Following the dual-meets with Cal State East Bay this weekend, the Nanooks will be off for the entire month of November. They'll jump right back into the pool on Dec. 1 at the Logger Invitational at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. The three-day Invitational will wrap-up the 2023 portion of the schedule before Alaska opens up 2024 on the road at the SDSU Invitational on Jan. 8-9, 2024 in San Diego, Calif.
2023-24 Schedule
Cal State East Bay
The Pioneers currently sit at 1-2, 0-0 PCSC on the season. They opened up the season with a 149-113 victory over Pacific at home before falling to UC Davis (240-53) and Nevada (205-88) in a double dual-meet at UC Davis. Between those meets, they took first out of 10 teams at the Slug Shootout at UC Santa Cruz. They defeated Biola, UC Santa Cruze, The Master's Univ. Whittier College, Fresno Pacific, Southwestern Oregon CC, College of Idaho, Soka and Simpson University.
Former Nanook, Nella Pashak returns to Fairbanks after spending the 2021-22 season with the Nanooks. She has been at East Bay the past two seasons.
