FAIRBANKS – The Alaska Nanooks swim team picked up their first head-to-head win of the season with a 118-87 win over the Westmont College Warriors in the Patty Center Pool on Jan. 20.Â

Day one consisted of 11 events and began with a 400-yard medley relay win for the Nanooks. A team made up of
Lainey Lioi,
Shannon McCallum,
Ali Pecore and
Sophia Ruppert grabbed a four-second win with a finishing time of 4:11.14. In the second event,
Payton Wojciechowicz grabbed an individual win with a time of 18:26.38 in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Tori Shoemaker grabbed a third-place finish and
Kylee Carter took fifth for the Nanooks. Ruppert grabbed a victory in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a winning time of 2:03.48, beating teammate
Shannon McCallum by half a second.
Mesa Moran took sixth with a time of 2:11.04.Â

In the fourth event, the 50-yard freestyle,
Lainey Lioi led Alaska with a second-place finish. She finished in 25.92.
Adeline Berry and
Kaidence Sampsel followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Camille Dayton led the way in the 200-yard IM, finishing in a time of 2:19.09 – three seconds behind the winner.
Caroline McCormick followed in fourth and
Naomi Burgan finished in fifth.Â

Adeline Berry got the win in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:00.98, taking the win by less than half a second.
Sophia Ruppert took third with a time of 1:01.67 and Moran took fifth.
Ali Pecore and Lioi followed with three-straight wins. Pecore took a win in the seventh and ninth events, the 100-yard free and 500-yard free. In the 100, Pecore posted a winning time of 54.44, grabbing the win by almost two full seconds. In the 500, she picked up a win with a time of 5:25.44.Â

Lioi grabbed a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.00.Â

In the 10
th event, the 100-yard breaststroke, the Nanooks had
Caroline McCormick finish fourth,
Cameron Valent finish fifth and
Kyleigh McArthur finish sixth. The 'Nooks grabbed the final win of the night in the 400-yard freestyle relay as a team of Lioi, Pecore, Ruppert and Wojciechowicz grabbed a win with a time of 3:44.58.

These two teams compete one more time tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the Patty Center Pool.Â
