SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Alaska Nanooks swim team fell on day one of their two-day meet with the Westmont Warriors in Santa Barbara, Calif. Westmont College took day one 97-94.
Day one consisted of 10 events. The first event was the 50-yard freestyle and Adeline Berry was the top finisher for Alaska. She took second in the event, posting a finals time of 26.63, earning four points for the Nanooks. Emma Seward was the final scoring Nanook in the race, taking fifth with a time of 27.66. Kyleigh McArthur was the top-finisher for the Nanooks in event two, taking third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.28, earning three points. Tori Shoemaker took fourth and Taryn Aho took fifth.Â
The 200-yard freestyle was the third event and Shannon McCallum took second for four points, finishing in 2:03.11. Emma Seward followed in fourth-place and Tori Shoemaker took fifth. In the 500-yard freestyle, Payton Wojciechowicz took the first-place finish with a time of 5:29.85. Naomi Burgan followed in second with a time of 5:43.19. Aho rounded out the 'Nooks scorers with a fifth-place finish. Wojciechowicz followed up with another win in the 1650-yard freestyle, taking first with a time of 18:31.32, winning by 30 seconds. Aho took third, taking three team points.Â
In the 100-yard backstroke, Lainey Lioi grabbed another Alaska win, taking first with a time of 1:04.78. Emma Seward followed up with a third-place finish. Cameron Valent led the way in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking a third-place finish with a time of 1:17.02. Camille Dayton followed closely behind with a finishing time of 1:17.42 and Kyleigh McArthur posted a 1:17.75. The final three events were the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard IM and 400-yard freestyle relay. In the butterfly, Sophia Ruppert continued the winning ways for the Nanooks, taking first with a time of 1:01.41. Mesa Moran took fourth. Valent led the way in the IM, taking third with a time of 2:25.57 and the Nanooks team of Camille Dayton, Lainey Lioi, Shannon McCallum and Sophia Ruppert finished the day off with a win with a time of 3:47.84.
The Nanooks and Westmont face again tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. AKT.
