SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Alaska Nanooks swim team fell to Westmont on the final day of their two-day meet. Westmont knocked off the 'Nooks 104-99.
On day two, the Nanooks and Warriors participated in 11 events; the 200-yard medley relay, 1000-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 50-yard freestyle, 400-yard IM, 200-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay.
Westmont grabbed the win in the 200-yard medley relay with the Nanooks placing second and third. The second-place team from Alaska was made up of
Camille Dayton,
Lainey Lioi,
Shannon McCallum and
Sophia Ruppert and they posted a time of 1:57.41 for four points.
Payton Wojciechowicz took first in the second event, the 1000-yard freestyle. She grabbed the win with a final time of 11:13.22, getting the Nanooks nine points. Emma Seward followed in second-place with a time of 11:43.97. The third event of the day was the 200-yard freestyle.
Taryn Aho was the top-finisher for Alaska, finishing in second with a time of 2:07.24, only two and a half seconds behind the winner.Â
Kyleigh McArthur led the 'Nooks in the 50-yard freestyle, taking second with a time of 27.67 and getting the Nanooks four points. Aho took fourth and
Tori Shoemaker took fifth.Â
In the 400-yard IM, the Nanooks took second and third as
Naomi Burgan took second with a time of 4:46.26 and Cameron Valent took third with a time of 5:04.50. The next event was the 200-yard butterfly and
Sophia Ruppert grabbed a first-place finish with a time of 2:12.72.
Mesa Moran took fourth with a time of 2:23.70.
Lainey Lioi grabbed another win for Alaska in the 100-yard free, posting a time of 56.84.
Adeline Berry took second, posting a time of 57:67 and
Kyleigh McArthur took fourth with a time of 1:00.65. In the 200-yard backstroke,
Camille Dayton grabbed a win, posting a time of 2:17.71, getting nine points for the Nanooks.
Shannon McCallum followed closely behind in second-place with a finishing time of 2:19.55.Â
The final three events were the 500-yard free, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard free relay. In the 500, Wojciechowicz grabbed a second-place finish with a 5:27.99 time.
Tori Shoemaker finished in fourth and
Mesa Moran too fifth. In the 200-yard breaststroke,
Naomi Burgan claimed fourth and
Taryn Aho took fifth. The final event was the 200-yard freestyle relay. A team made up of
Adeline Berry,
Lainey Lioi,
Shannon McCallum and
Sophia Ruppert grabbed first-place with a time of 1:42.82.Â
The Nanooks are back in action Nov. 18-20 at the La Verne Invite at East Los Angeles College.Â
