Day Two Results
FAIRBANKS - The Alaska Nanooks swim team was swept this weekend by the Azusa Pacific Cougars. APU took day two from the Nanooks 125-76.Â
Day two began with the 200-yard medley relay. The top Nanook team to finish took third-place with a time of 1:58.52 and was made up of Adeline Berry, Lainey Lioi, Shannon McCallum and Sophia Ruppert. The other Alaska teams finished fifth and sixth with times of 2:04.23 and 2:05.32, respectively. Payton Wojciechowicz led the Nanooks in the second event, the 1000-yard freestyle. She finished third with a time of 11:13.90, earning three team points. Camille Dayton followed in fourth with a time of 11:17.18 and Emma Seward finished in sixth.Â
The third event of the day was the 200-yard freestyle and saw Taryn Aho race to a third-place finish and time of 2:08.45 to lead Alaska. Tori Shoemaker took fifth with a time of 2:12.57 and Kaidence Sampsel took sixth with a time of 2:15.22. Lainey Lioi, Adeline Berry and Kyleigh McArthur all raced in the 50-yard freestyle, taking fourth, fifth and sixth with times of 26.17, 26.93 and 27.83, respectively.Â
Sophia Ruppert led the 'Nooks in the fifth event, the 400-yard IM, finishing third with a time of 4:54.88. Naomi Burgan followed close behind, finishing fourth with a time of 4:57.66 and Shannon McCallum rounded out the Nanook finishers with a sixth-place finish and time of 5:02.42. In the 200-yard butterfly, Sophia Ruppert grabbed a win, taking first-place behind a time of 2:13.15, winning by over three seconds. Mesa Moran picked up a third-place finish and a time of 2:25.85 and Gabrielle Davy took fourth with a time of 2:32.79. Lioi, Berry and Cameron Valent took fourth, fifth and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle posting times of 56.92, 58.61 and 1:01.27. In the eighth event, the Nanooks took fourth, fifth and sixth again, this time it was Dayton in fourth (2:21.28), McCallum in fifth (2:24.99) and Sampsel in sixth (2:38.89).
Wojciechowicz took third in the ninth event, the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:32.01. Emma Seward took fifth, finishing in 5:53.47 and Mesa Moran took sixth with a time of 5:56.57. In the final two events, the Nanooks took the top-spot each time. In the 200-yard breaststroke, they were led by Naomi Burgan, taking first with a time of 2:41.93. Caroline McCormick followed in second with a time of 2:42.51 and Taryn Aho got third with a time of 2:52.92.Â
The final event of the morning was the 200-yard freestyle relay and the Alaska team made up of Berry, Lioi, McCallum and Ruppert took first with a time of 1:44.97. Alaska also took second and third with the second place team finishing in 1:50.01 and the third place team finishing in 1:51.77.
Alaska takes to the road next week and will travel to Santa Barbara, Calif. for a two-day matchup with Westmont College.Â
