Day One Results
FAIRBANKSÂ - The Alaska Nanooks swim team opened their 2022-23 season at home against the Azusa Pacific Cougars on Friday, Oct. 21. They fell to APU 133-66 to drop to 0-1, 0-1 PCSC to start the season.
Day one consisted of 11 events at the Patty Center Pool. To open the meet up, the two teams went head-to-head in the 400-yard medley relay. APU took first and second as a team made up ofÂ

Payton Wojciechowicz. In the second event, the 1650-yard freestyle, the Nanooks had three swimmers finish. Wojciechowicz led the Nanooks to a third-place finish and a time of 18:44.70. Dayton followed close behind, finishing fourth with a time of 18:50.98 andÂ
Taryn Ahorounded out the Nanook finishers in sixth-place with a time of 19:22.59.
Ruppert led the 'Nooks in the third event, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 2:02.41, earning four team points. McCallum followed in third-place with a 2:04.37 and Moran finished sixth with a time of 2:08.23. The 50-yard freestyle was the fourth event of the night and the Nanooks took fourth, fifth and sixth. Lioi led the way in fourth with a 26.07, Berry followed in fifth with a 26.63 andÂ
Kaidence Sampsel took sixth, finishing with a 28.49. Alaska finished in the same placements in the fifth event, the 200-yard IM as Burgan took fifth with a 2:20.53, Valent took sixth with a time of 2:22.50 and Ruppert took sixth with a finishing time of 2:28.07. Berry grabbed a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, grabbing the 'Nooks three team points. She finished in a time of 1:02.56.Â
Mesa Moran took fourth, for two points, with a time of 1:05.60 and Davy took sixth with a time of 1:08.47.
Kyleigh McArthur led the Nanooks in the 100-yard freestyle taking fourth-place, racing to a finishing time of 59.43 and earning two points for Alaska. She was followed closely byÂ
Tori Shoemaker in fifth-place with a time of 1:00.31 andÂ
Emma Seward, who took sixth with a time of 1:01.72. Lioi cracked the top-three in the eighth event of the night. She raced to a 1:05.14 in the 100-yard backstroke, getting the Nanooks three points.Â
Camille Dayton followed in fifth with a 1:07.19 andÂ
Kaidence Sampsel finished in sixth with a time of 1:13.69. In the ninth event,Â

Payton Wojciechowicz and Namoi Burgan took fourth, fifth and sixth. McCallum finished in 5:33.88, Wojciechowicz posted a time of 5:35.00 and Burgan finished in 5:35.94.
The final two events went to the Nanooks as Valent, McArthur andÂ
Caroline McCormick took one through three. Valent took first and earned nine points for the Nanooks with a time of 1:14.01 in the 100-yard breaststroke. McCormick took second with a time of 1:17.39, earning four points and McArthur took third with a time of 1:17.89 for three points. The final event of the night was the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 'Nooks team made up ofÂ
