GNAC Update: Commitment to Spring Sports and No Fan Policy

Online GNAC Release

Portland, OREGON – The Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) officially announced their commitment to spring seasons and spring sport championships.

Alaska, not having spring sports, will not be affected by the conferences decision for baseball/softball, golf, rowing or track & field, however, with Alaska's revised spring volleyball season, the GNAC has enforced a strict no-fan policy for all GNAC-schools and events.

GNAC commissioner Dave Haglund explained the reasoning for closed-door events, "While all of us would love to open GNAC venues to spectators, the conference leadership determined it is in the best interests of the student-athletes, coaches and staff to not do so for the remainder of the academic year. We appreciate everyone's understanding as we prioritize the health and safety of GNAC student-athletes during these unprecedented times."

The GNAC's Management Council and CEO Board will continue to monitor developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic and make additional decisions as needed to ensure the health and safety of the conference's student-athletes, coaches and staff.

The Alaska Nanooks volleyball team is scheduled to begin their 10-game season on March 5, 2021 at home versus the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. All home games will be live streamed on the official Alaska Nanooks YouTube page with live stats available via Sidearm Live Stats. Cross country running will also continue to have no fans at their remaining meets and races.
