BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Alaska Nanooks cross country teams ran at Sudden Valley Golf Course in Bellingham, Wash. for the 2021 edition of the Bill Roe Classic. The women's team took fourth overall, third out of NCAA teams and the men took 10
th overall, seventh out of NCAA teams.
The men raced in a 10k and opened up the day along Lake Whatcom. The Nanooks men's team took 85
th, 97
th, 107
th, 114
th, 120
th, and 123
rd.
Zephan Ozturgut was the top-finisher for the Nanooks, taking 85
th place with a time of 35:39.2. The next 'Nook to cross the line was
Koen Ross with a time of 36:23.1.
Nolan Earnest and
Jack Cater finished close together in 107
th and 114
th with times of 37:31.2 and 39:22.3, respectively.
Patrick Marbacher and
Max Beiergrohslein rounded out the Nanooks men's team for the Bill Roe, racing to times of 39:51.5 and 41:14.6.
Rosie Fordham led the way for the Nanooks women's team, taking fourth place with a time of 22:06.6 in the women's 6k race.
Kendall Kramer and
Naomi Bailey completed the three-headed monster for the women's team, following up with sixth and seventh place finishes with times 22:19.3 and 22:22.3. These three finishes earned the Nanooks three, four and five points.
Delainey Zock picked up a 48
th-place finish and time of 24:12.5, earning 41 points for the 'Nooks.
Sarah Baum was the next Nanook to cross the line, finishing 74
th.
Sarah Olson finished 92
nd, rounding out the women's team scoring.
Josh Sanderlin had this to say after his teams performance, "Both teams have faced significant challenges over the course of the season, this felt like the first time that they were able to run with full force and they all showed what they're made of."
The Nanooks are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 at the 2021 GNAC Championships, hosted by Saint Martin's.
