FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks swim team battled San Diego State in their opening meet of the 2019-20 season. The 'Nooks fell to the Aztecs in the opener, 54-113.
Event one started the evening strong for Alaska as the 200-yard medley team of
Erika Kakazu,
Kaia Norbye,
Oda Bygdnes and
Makayla Suominen took first with a final time of 1:48.54. SDSU took second, third and fourth and a second Nanooks relay team took fifth made up of
Whitney McArthur, Syd Gulon,
Jessica Williamson and
Kyleigh McArthur with a time of 1:59.17.
The Aztecs would go on to claim individual wins in the 500-yard freestyle, 50-yard backstroke, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard IM, 400-yard IM and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Kaia Norbye won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 30.16 to lead the field by almost a full second.
Oda Bygdnes took first in the 50-yard butterfly, running away with the win as she raced in 25.60. Second place finisher, Riley N. Tapley of SDSU came in second more than a second behind finishing with a 27.00 finish time. For full results,

The Nanooks are back in action, Monday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m., as they look to even up the weekend final and grab their first win of the young 2019-20 season.
