FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks swim team fell on the final day of their two-day series with the Azusa Pacific Cougars, 94-110. The Nanooks grabbed five wins in the 11 total events, but that was not enough to grab their first win of the season as they drop to 0-4, 0-1 PCSC.

Early Saturday, Oct. 19 saw the Nanooks 200-yard medley relay team grab a first place finish in the opening event of the day. A team made up of Oda Bygdnes, Sydney Gulon, Kaia Norbye and Kayla Suominen won with a finals time of 1:50.22, more than three seconds faster than the runner-up team from APU. An Alaska team made up of Erika Kakazu, Alexis Mattson, Jessica Williamson and Kyleigh McArthur finished fourth with a time of 2:04.99.

The Cougars took three of the next four events, the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. Rachel Beal of the 'Nooks grabbed a finals win in the 200-yard breaststroke, earning Alaska nine points with a winning time of 2:14.23.

The next three races went the way of the 'Nooks as Bygdnes won the 100-yard butterfly with a sub-minute time of 58.59, Norbye won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.41 and Sydney Gulon took the win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.81.

The final three events were won by the Cougars.

Head coach Becca Weiland had this to say following her teams day two performance at the Patty Center Pool, "In the end, we fought hard again today, we're going through the recruitment process to get our team up to 18, but with 12 girls out there they all stepped up and did what was asked of them and we're just excited to get to work this month and get ready for Seattle U!"

The Nanooks swimming team will take a month break until Seattle University comes to Fairbanks on Nov. 15 and Nov. 16 at the Patty Center Pool.
