SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – On Tuesday, the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association named Alaska Nanooks women's Nordic senior skier
Kati Roivas the women's Nordic Skier of the Week. The honor is Roivas' first weekly honor of her career and Alaska's first RMISA Skier of the Week honor since joining the conference in August of 2017.
Roivas posted a stellar weekend at the Montana State University Invitational in Bozeman, Montana last weekend, posting top-five finishes in back-to-back days.
In Friday's 5km individual-start, freestyle race, Roivas placed fourth overall with a time of 16:42.7, which helped the Nooks earn 31 points. In Saturday's 15km mass-start, classic race, Roivas registered her first RMISA podium finish ranking third with a time of 53:05.0, earning 34 points.
The RMISA skiers of the week are based on NCAA qualification points, they can only win once a year and tied are broken by time differential.
Roivas becomes the first Alaska Nanook skier to earn a weekly honor since former Nanook Anne-Tine Markset was named the Central Collegiate Ski Association Athlete of the Week on Feb. 15, 2016.
The Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 and Sunday, Feb. 3 at the University of New Mexico Invitational at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area in Red River, New Mexico.
