FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks swim team returns to the Patty Center Pool this weekend, hosting fellow Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) member Biola University this Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17.

Last Time Out
Last month, the Alaska Nanooks swim team opened up the 2018-19 season by hosting the Azusa Pacific Cougars for a pair of meets at the Patty Center Pool. Alaska split with APU over the weekend, taking Friday's meet 108-95 before falling on Saturday, 105-97.

Norbye Named PCSC Swimmer of the Week
Following Alaska's meets against Azusa Pacific, redshirt-freshman 
Kaia Norbye was named the PCSC's NCAA Division II Female Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 25. It was Alaska swimming's first honor of the season and Norbye's first of her career. Norbye swam a 24.26 to win the 50-yard freestyle before repeating that feat the following day with a 24.57. Her time on Friday ranked her 24th national at the time and moved her into the Nanooks' all-time top-10 list in that event, ranking ninth. Norbye also took first place in the Nanooks' medley relays on both days before swimming a 53.22 in the 100-yard freestyle.
Alaska Featured in CollegeSwimming.com Rankings
As of Wednesday, the Alaska Nanooks are ranked 43rd in the CollegeSwimming.com's College Dual Team Rankings for women's NCAA Division II. The Nooks have calculated for 556.50 points in the rankings while their opponent, Biola, ranks directly behind them in 44th with 555.05 points. The only other PCSC schools featured in the DII rankings were Fresno Pacific (602.85), Cal State East Bay (590.80) and Azusa Pacific (568.35), ranking 17th, 27th and 35th, respectively.
PCSC Rankings
In the women's dual PCSC rankings, Alaska ranks seventh out of the 11-team conference with their 556.50 points. Pepperdine remains in first place with 604.00 points, followed by Fresno Pacific (602.85) and Concordia (593.35) rounding-out the top-three.
Coaching Staff
The 2018-19 season will be the last for longtime Alaska Nanooks Swimming head coach 
Scott Lemley, who will retire at the conclusion of the season. Stepping in this year is associate head coach 
Rebecca Weiland, who comes to the Nanooks after a successful coaching stint at the University of Wisconsin and an extremely notable career at the University of Minnesota.

Five newcomers join the Nanooks this season, including

Wanlaya Jarupakorn(Anchorage, Alaska), 
Whitney McArthur (Sitka, Alaska), 
Kaia Norbye (Karasjok, Norway) and 
Jessica Williamson(North Pole, Alaska).

Conversely, seven of Alaska's swimmers from the 2017-18 season return to anchor the Nooks, including sophomore

Cassidy Heaton (Fairbanks, Alaska), Erika Kakakzu (Aiea, Hawaii), 
Cassidy Kelly (Flagstaff, Arizona),

Claire McElroy (Kasilof, Alaska).
