The undefeated Alaska Nanooks coed rifle team returns to competition this week, as they take on the Jacksonville Gamecocks today in Jacksonville, Alabama, before catching a preview of the 2018 NCAA Rifle Championship site by competing at the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The Nooks will then travel to Pennsylvania to take part in the annual Palmyra Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 13.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | 4-8 Overall, 0-6 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 0-1 | THIS WEEK: vs. Concordia (Jan. 11), vs. Western Oregon (Jan. 13).
This week, the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will compete at home for the first time in 2018 as they host the Concordia Cavaliers on Thursday, Jan. 11 before taking on the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday, Jan. 13. Both games will be played on the Alaska Airlines Court with Thursday's matchup slated for 7pm AKST, while Saturday's contest is scheduled for 1pm AKST.
Promotion: All military and their dependents will receive free admission by showing a valid military ID at the door.
MEN'S BASKETBALL | 5-7 Overall, 3-3 GNAC
LAST WEEK: 1-1 | THIS WEEK: at Northwest Nazarene (Jan. 11), at Central Washington (Jan. 13)
The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team will hit the road for a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference games this week, as they take on the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks in Nampa, Idaho on Thursday, Jan. 11 before heading to Ellensburg, Washington to face the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday, Jan. 13. Thursday's contest is slated for 5pm AKST, while Saturday's game is scheduled for 6pm AKST.
SWIMMING
LAST WEEK: Idle | THIS WEEK: at LMU Lion's Cup (Jan. 12-13)
The Alaska Nanooks swim team will travel to Los Angeles this weekend, as they compete in the annual LMU Lion's Cup this Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13, hosted by fellow Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Division Conference member Loyola Marymount.

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team continues their two-week home-stand by hosting the No. 8/6 Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks in a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series this Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Carlson Center. Puck-drop for both nights is scheduled for 7:07pm AKST.

NORDIC SKI

After competing at the 2018 U.S. Cross Country National Championships in Anchorage last weekend, the Alaska Nanooks men's and women's Nordic ski teams will travel to West Yellowstone, Montana to compete in the Montana State University Invitational at the Rendezvous Trails this Saturday, Jan. 13 and Sunday, Jan. 14.

On Monday, the Alaska Nanooks Sports Information Office declared sophomore
Anna Darnell (women's Nordic ski) and senior defenseman
Zach Frye (men's ice hockey) the Jan. 8 selections for the female and male Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week, respectively, for their performances on the trail and on the ice last weekend.
Anna Darnell (Sophomore | Anchorage, Alaska)
In her hometown of Anchorage, Darnell was a consistent force for the Alaska women's Nordic ski team last weekend, as they competed in the 2018 U.S. Cross Country Ski National Championships. Darnell was the first female Nook to cross the finish line in Wednesday's 10km freestyle race, placing 48th overall and 14th among RMISA skiers with a time of 31:04.2. In Friday's freestyle sprints, Darnell placed 65th overall with a qualifying time of 3:43.69. Darnell's time advanced her to the quarterfinals and the semifinals of the junior women's race, where she competed alongside rookie skier

Zach Frye (Senior | Defenseman | Spokane, Wash.)
In the Nanooks' split with Alabama-Huntsville at home last weekend, Frye led all Alaska players with a three-point weekend, registering one goal and two assists for three points. In Friday's 3-2 victory, Frye collected fifth multi-point game of the season by posting one assist and the game-winning goal with 55 seconds left in regulation. In Saturday's 3-1 loss, Frye recorded an assist on the Nanooks' only goal of the night.

Jack Weiss will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season to undergo chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer. The Alaska Nanooks will keep supporters informed with updates and information on how you can support Weiss throughout the upcoming months.
