After falling in close Great Northwest Athletic Conference action last week, the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team will face two tough league opponents in No. 9 Alaska Anchorage and Montana State Billings this week. The Nooks will take on in-state rival UAA on Tuesday, Jan. 30 in Anchorage at the Alaska Airlines Center at 7pm AKST, before hosting the MSUB Yellowjackets on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Alaska Airlines Court in Fairbanks at 2pm AKST. Saturday's game vs. MSUB will be Alaska's Breast Cancer Awareness Game in partnership with Making Strides & encourages fans to wear pink.

The Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team earned a conference split at home last week, falling 81-54 to Western Oregon before bouncing back to defeat Concordia on Saturday, 63-62. The Nanooks will hit the road for a pair of GNAC games this week, taking on the Saint Martin's Saint in Lacey, Washington on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6pm AKST before facing the Seattle Pacific Falcons in Seattle on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3pm AKST.

After a spectacular week of competition, Alaska broke their third program record in a week in Saturday's 4701-4646 victory over the University of Nevada Wolfpack at the E.F. Horton Rifle Range. The Nanooks will take on the University of Texas at El Paso Miners in a standalone match on Friday, Feb. 2 at the Falcon Rifle Range in Colorado. The Nanooks will stay in Colorado and compete in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy at the same location on Saturday, Feb. 3 and Sunday, Feb. 4.

After enjoying a bye-week, the Alaska Nanooks hockey team returns to Western Collegiate Hockey Association action by hosting the Ferris State University Bulldogs this Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Carlson Center. With six WCHA points on the line and the regular season starting to close out, this weekend's matchup will be an important one. Puck-drop both nights is scheduled for 7:07pm AKST.

Alaska Swimming Named a CSCAA Division II Scholar Team
On Monday, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America announced that the Alaska Nanooks swim team earned the distinguished honor of being named a Scholar All-America team for the Fall 2017 semester. Alaska is one of 688 teams that were named by the CSCAA on Monday, as the Nooks posted a semester cumulative GPA of 3.22. In order to be named a Scholar All-America team, teams were required to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Sanni Salonen (women's basketball) and sophomore
Michael Kluting (men's basketball) the Jan. 29 for the female and male Ravn Alaska Nanooks of the Week for their performances on the court last weekend, respectively.
Sanni Salonen (Junior | Forward | Littoinen, Finland)
Salonen combined for 18 points in two conference games last weekend, including tying a career-best 10 points against Simon Fraser on Thursday. Salonen shot 6-for-13 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while also chipping in four steals and one block. However, Salonen's biggest contribution of the week came in the form of rebounding, as the Littoinen, Finland native registered 10 offensive and three defensive rebounds to total 13 on the weekend.
Michael Kluting ( Sophomore | Forward | Palmer, Alaska)
Over the weekend, Kluting shot 10-for-27 from the floor, 4-for-10 from beyond the arc and 5-for-6 from the free throw line to tally 19 points in two games. Kluting registered his seventh double-double of the season against Concordia on Saturday, tallying 15 points and 13 rebounds. The Palmer, Alaska native also chipped in 20 rebounds and two assists in a GNAC split last Thursday and Saturday.

Jack Weiss will miss the remainder of the 2017-18 season to undergo chemotherapy treatment for testicular cancer. The Alaska Nanooks will keep supporters informed with updates and information on how you can support Weiss throughout the upcoming months.
