Carlson Center Implements New Security Measures

The following is the official press release from the Carlson Center dated Sept. 7, 2017

NEW SECURITY MEASURES TO BE PUT IN PLACE AT THE CARLSON CENTER

Fairbanks, Alaska – To enhance the safety of all who visit and work at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks, Alaska, new security measures are being implemented.

Most notably, at public, ticketed events, and other events deemed necessary by venue management, bags that are 14"x14"x6" or larger will not be allowed in the facility. Bags smaller than 14"x14"x6" will be subject to a visual inspection prior to entering the event. After the search, the bag will be tagged and released back to the patron. The policy will be in effect for all who enter the facility on a public, ticketed event day, including: patrons, staff, contractors, event organizers, etc. Public, ticketed events include events such as: Alaska Nanook hockey games and other ticketed events.

"Ensuring the safety of our guests, clients, and employees is our top priority. Everyone deserves to have an enjoyable and safe experience while attending events and we strive to make that happen," said SMG General Manager, Kristin Baysinger.

Baysinger notes that many of the security measures have been in place and visual bag inspections take place at events with high security concerns, but they will not occur at every public, ticketed event and other events, as necessary.

Signs will be posted in all entryways stating what items are not allowed into the arena. These items include: pistols, revolvers, or other firearms at events in which alcohol is being served (AS 11.61.220); knives (other than a standard pocket knife), slingshots, metal knuckles, clubs, poles (including selfie sticks), or any other instrument with the principal purposes to be used as a weapon, glass, laser pointers, noisemakers, projectiles, helium balloons, glitter, confetti, backpacks/knapsacks, banners, fireworks, and bags that are 14"x14"x6" or larger.
