The Alaska Nanooks went 1-3 in four nonconference games last week, hosting Holy Names Nov. 20-21 before traveling to the Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Western Washington Nov. 24-25. This week, Alaska opens up Great Northwest Athletic Conference play against in-state rival Alaska Anchorage on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage at 7pm AKST. The Nooks will then host Montana State Billings Yellowjackets in another GNAC matchup on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Alaska Airlines Court in Fairbanks at 7:30pm AKST.

Like the men, the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team kicks-off conference play this week, hosting the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks on Thursday, Nov. 30 before facing the Central Washington Wildcats on Saturday, Dec. 2. Both games will be held at the Alaska Airlines Court with Thursday's game slated for 7pm AKST, while Saturday's is scheduled for 5:15pm AKST.
SWIMMING

After nearly a month off of competition, the Alaska Nanooks swim team returns to the pool this week, participating in the University of Washington's annual Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center in Seattle this Friday, Dec. 1, Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3.

The Alaska Nanooks suffered a sweep at home to the Michigan Tech Huskies last Friday (5-4) and Saturday (5-1) but will continue Western Collegiate Hockey Association play on the road this week. Alaska will travel to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan for a two-game conference series against the Lake Superior State University Lakers this Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2. Puck-drop for both nights at the Taffy Abel Arena is scheduled for 3:07pm AKST.
Kluting, Lendway Named to 2017 Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team
On Saturday, two from the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball team were named to the 2017 Chuck Randall Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team after their two-game performance in Bellingham. Lendway produced 36 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and three blocks while Kluting amassed 29 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and two steals.
SAAC Teddy Bear Toss
At Saturday's hockey game, redshirt-senior defenseman
Justin Woods scored the Nooks' only goal of the night to set off the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans threw new or slightly used stuffed animals on the ice after Woods' goal, which many Alaska student-athletes ran on the ice to collect in the third period. At the end of the game, 428 stuffed animals were collected and will be donated to Santa's Helpers, which be distributed to families around the area throughout the holiday season.

Brett Sawyer on the Charlie O'Toole Show this upcoming Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 8am AKST on KFBX 970 AM Fairbanks. Sawyer will be discussing this weekend's GNAC-opening contests against Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington.
