FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska Nanooks officially open the 2017-18 season this weekend, hosting Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Conference (PCSC) for Azusa Pacific at the Patty Center Pool this Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21.

Last Time Out
Last month, the Alaska Nanooks swim team hosted their annual Blue vs. Gold Pentathlon at the Patty Center Pool with the Blue Team mounting a 378-347 win over the Gold Team. In the five-even meet, freshman
Oda Bygdnes was named the winner of the event individually, posting a combined time of 5:12.81, the quickest time of any of the 11 other swimmers. Bydgnes placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (59.20) and the 100-yard IM (1:02.81).

Kinworthy & Heaton Honored by PCSC
On Oct. 6, the PCSC gave a "Special Recognition Female Athletes of the Week" honors to Alaska swimming junior
Sierra Kinworthy and
Cassidy Heaton for their performances at the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's (CSCAA) National Collegiate 5km Open Water Championships in Lawrence, Kansas on Sept. 16. The open featured 53 swimmers in the women's race with both Kinworthy (1:08:44.29) and Heaton (1:08:45.85) posted better times than they did at the 2016 event.
Fiser Joins Swimming Staff
In August, Alaska Nanooks head swim coach
Scott Lemley tabbed
Stacy Fiser as the team's new assistant coach, replacing Kinsey Laine. This weekend's meet will officially be Fiser's first in her new role but she's no stranger to the Nanooks nor the Patty Center Pool, as Fiser served as the team's volunteer assistant coach last season.
Fresh Faces
Four newcomers joined the Alaska Nanooks swim team this fall, hailing from Norway to Hawaii. The Nanooks' class of 2021 includes
