2016-17 Schedule
FAIRBANKS – The University of Alaska Fairbanks Athletics Department has officially announced Alaska rifle's upcoming 2016-17 schedule on Wednesday, which will include six home matches at the E. F. Horton Rifle Range at the Patty Center.
After a disappointing end to the season at the2016 NCAA Rifle National Championships and the resignation of longtime head coach Dan Jordan earlier this summer, the Nanooks will look to build from the foundation of its six returning veterans. With the addition of two prominent newcomers, Alaska rifle is preparing to create a new chapter in the program's rich history.
Kicking off the 2016-17 season, Alaska will host Air Force and the 2016 NCAA Rifle national runner-up Texas Christian University the weekend of Oct. 8-10. The Nooks will take on Air Force on Friday (Oct. 8), before shooting against TCU on Saturday (Oct. 9). Alaska will then strictly play host on Sunday, Oct. 10, as TCU and Air Force shoot against one another at the E. F. Horton Rifle Range.
The following weekend, Alaska will host Ohio State in a two-day match on Oct. 15-16.
November will prove to be a busy month for the Nooks, as they head to University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) on Nov. 4, before heading to Reno to take on Nevada on Nov. 6. Alaska will then return home to host a match between Kentucky and North Carolina State on Nov. 18, before shooting against Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 19 and North Carolina State on Sunday, Nov. 20. The match between Alaska and North Carolina State will also serve as senior night for the Nanooks, as it is their last home match of the season.
For their second consecutive year, Alaska will travel to Palmyra, Pennsylvania for the Palmyra Invitational on Jan. 8. The Nanooks will then head to West Virginia University on Jan. 10 to take on the reigning national champions on their home turf.
Before heading to the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships at Ohio State Feb. 4-5, Alaska will make a quick stop at the University of Nebraska on Feb. 2 to take on the Huskers in Lincoln. The NCAA Qualifying match will be held on Feb. 18 with the location still to be determined.
Alaska will look for redemption at the 2017 NCAA Rifle National Championships, which will be held Mar. 9-11 at Ohio State.
