Nanook Skiing Adds Local Talent

FAIRBANKS – Last week, the Alaska Nanooks signed local skier Max Donaldson, a standout performer from West Valley High School.

Donaldson is a three time state champion for nordic skiing and is also a junior National Champion. The new signee has competed for the United States in the Scandinavian Cup, where he placed 10th this season in the World Under-Age 18 Championships in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden.

"You cannot have a more impressive high school skiing resume than Max has," said Christina Turman. "He is an extremely talented skier who possesses a great work ethic. I had the pleasure of coaching him his sophomore year of high school and I am very excited to have another opportunity."

In addition to being an exceptional skier, Donaldson has also been on the varsity cross country running team at West Valley and has placed in the top-10 at the state championships the last two years. At Alaska he will be on both the running and skiing rosters, contributing to both teams.

"When you have someone who is a junior national champion and a state champion, coupled with being an outstanding student and a great person in your hometown, you're going to do all you can to keep them in the community," continued Turman. "As a program we are so happy that Max will be a Nanook next year. He is in a great position where he can have a direct impact on the team in his freshman year, but he will also have many teammates who are able to push him to improve."
