INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Five members of the Alaska Nanook Women's Swimming team will be participating in the 2015 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday, March 11th. The national meet is a four-day event hosted at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Victoria Adams starts things off for the Nanooks on Wednesday, participating in the 200 individual medley. Martha Hood follows suit and will be swimming in the 50 freestyle. Closing out Wednesday's events is the Nanooks' 200 medley relay team, ranked #4 in the country. Swimmers for the relay include V. Adams, Nga Nguyen, Margot Adams and \Hood.
Thursday begins with the 200 freestyle relay with the lineup of M. Adams, Hood, V. Adams and Katie Stark. Participating in the 100 Fly is M. Adams (ranked #6) and Hood. Proceeding the 100 butterfly is the 400 medley relay including V. Adams, Nguyen, M. Adams and Stark.
The 100 backstroke on Friday consists of the three Nanooks: the Adams sisters and Hood. To conclude Friday's events, Nguyen will race in the 100 breaststroke.
On the final day of the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, the Nanooks will compete in two events as M. Adams, Stark and Hood will compete, individually in the 100 freestyle. And for the finale of the Championships, the 400 freestyle relay team will look to close out the championships in good position. Swimming in the relay will be M. Adams, Hood, V. Adams and Stark.
The top eight swimmers in the 2015 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships will earn All-American Honors. Swimmers who finish in the 9th through 16th position will be claimed All-American Honorable Mention. Any relay or individual swimmer finishing in the top 16 will score points.
Margot Adams has had a memorable season thus far, breaking two pool records at the Patty Pool (100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle Relay), was crowned the 100 butterfly conference champion for the fourth year straight and finished the Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference Championships in fifth place overall individually.
In addition to M. Adams, V. Adams, Nga Nguyen, Martha Hood and Katie Stark were all selected for the NCAA's with their 200 (Hood) and 400 (Stark) medley relay team times. Since these five Nanooks were selected with their relay times, they are allowed to compete in any individual event as long as they pass the NCAA "B" cut qualifications.
