COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alaska topped all competitors in the smallbore portion of today's of the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships and had four individuals qualify for the finals, including the eventual champion Tim Sherry, as the Nanooks dominated Day One of the event hosted by the United States Air Force Academy.
Sherry, Ryan Anderson, Luke Johnson and Sagen Maddalena all qualified for the finals and lead Alaska to a first-place combined score of 2,325. Sherry would then go on to claim the smallbore conference individual championship.
"We shot well today," said head coach Dan Jordan. "We will look for a good air score tomorrow to go with today's results and give us some good confidence going into NCAAs."
Ohio State came in second with a shot total of 2,311. TCU and the United States Air Force Academy came in third and fourth, respectively with totals of 2,302 and 2,291 while Nevada (2,266) and UTEP (2,250) rounded out the scoring.
Sherry was the top shooter for Alaska as he totaled 586 in the smallbore, including a perfect 100 in his first standing stance. Anderson was right behind his teammate with a total of 584, with Johnson's 581, including a perfect 100 in his second standing stance, also help lead the way.
Mats Eriksson and Maddalena rounded out the scoring for the Nanooks, as they each had a shot total of 579. Eriksson placed in ninth, due to a tie-breaker.
After the finals, Maddalena placed eighth, Johnson seventh, Anderson fifth and Sherry first.
The Nanooks will compete in the PRC Air Rifle Championships tomorrow at the USAFA.
