FAIRBANKS, Alaska –
The Alaska Nanooks swim team was handed their second loss of the season Friday night, as they fell 113-92 to Pacific Collegiate Swimming Conference rival Cal State East Bay at the Patty Center Pool.  The Nanooks captured six of the 12 events including the 400-yard medley relay, 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard breaststroke.

"It was another close meet with our biggest conference rival this evening," Head Coach Scott Lemley described of the meet. "They are certainly a quality program. We had some very good races tonight, starting with our 400 medley relay, which produced a season-best time for us."

Junior Victoria Adams won first place in all three events she participated in, including the 100-yard backstroke where her time of 0:58.50 was the only one to finish under a minute. Adams swam a 0:57.78 in her leg of the 400-yard medley relay, which is only a half second off the NCAA "B" qualifying time and ranks her 8th nationally in NCAA Division II. Adams won her final event in the 100-yard IM with a time of 0:59.63, breaking her own pool record by half of a second and being the only finisher under a minute for the second time in the event.

Cal State East Bay's Rachel Shimizu handily captured the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.89), the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.76) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.56), taking first in each. The Pioneers' Madison Hauanio (0:52.98) barely beat out sophomore Katie Stark (0:54.03) in the 100-yard freestyle.

"The distance events went to East Bay, although our best distance swimmer, freshman and our hometown girl Cassidy Heaton swam extremely well, coming away with personal-bests in the 500-yard and 1,000 yard freestyles," Lemley said.

The Nanooks finished the individual events on a high note, capturing first and second in the 100-yard breaststroke with junior Nga Nguyen posting a time of 1:06.79 and sophomore transfer Kate Mathews (1:07.72) closing in right behind her.

The Pioneers closed out the night by placing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 1:38.43. The Nanooks quartet of junior Hannah White, sophomore Noelle Graham, Nguyen and Mathews posted a second place finish with a time of 1:41.70.

The Nanooks swim team concludes their regular season schedule tomorrow at the Patty Center Pool, where they face Cal State East Bay once again. The meet begins at 9:30 a.m. and will also be senior night.
