Nanooks Now No. 2 after Victory over Akron

AKRON, Ohio - Competing for the second time in as many days, the Alaska rifle team followed up its record setting day with an impressive, 4,699-4,633 triumph over the No. 14 Akron Zips on Tuesday.

After another sweep of ranked opponents, the Nanooks are now ranked No. 2 in the most recent CRCA/NCAA national polls, behind just West Virginia, who they host Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

Tim Sherry, Mats Eriksson, Ryan Anderson and Lorelie Stanfield led the way for Alaska, as they scored in both the smallbore and air rifle portions of the contest.

Anderson led the way in both the smallbore and air rifle competition, as he shot a 590 in the smallbore and a 593 in the air rifle. Ericksson's 583 was the next highest total in the smallbore, while his 590 in the air rifle capped off a fine day.

Sherry shot a 591 in the air rifle and a 578 in the smallbore while Stanfield shot a 587 in air and a 582 in the smallbore.

Sagen Maddalena rounded out Alaska's scoring in the air rifle with an impressive 591 while Soren Butler finalized the scoring in the smallbore with a total of 579.

The Nanooks will now return to Alaska where they will prepare to host the top-ranked Mountaineers the last weekend of January. Following those matches, the Nanooks face No. 13 Nevada before the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships begin in early February.
