FAIRBANKS – After three years serving as the assistant athletic director for development for the Alaska Nanooks,
Sheena Cummings has resigned effective June 27 after accepting a position as a marketing assistant with the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska.
Cummings, who was also the senior woman administrator for the previous two athletic years, worked extensively on the enhancement of philanthropic support to benefit Nanook student-athletes.
"All of us with the Alaska Nanooks wish Sheena all the best as she embarks on the next phase of her career in development with a local agency that does very important work in the health care field," director of athletics
Gary Gray said. "She has been a very good colleague and we are confident she will do well."
She helped the department of athletics' culture of philanthropy grow from 53 donors who gave $173,748 in 2012 to 276 donors giving $265,271 in 2014. Major areas of donor impact have included athletic scholarships, facility enhancements and team support.
Earlier this year, Cummings earned the Certified Professional Fundraising Executive (CFRE) endorsement. She is an alum of Leadership Fairbanks, the University of Alaska Fairbanks and serves on the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Alaska Chapter.
