Sherry Places Sixth in Three-Position at ISSF Junior Cup in Germany

SUHL, Germany – Alaska's Tim Sherry (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mechanical Engineering) began his summer tour in Europe a little early as he was invited to compete at the inaugural International Shooting Sport Federation Junior Cup, which took place this week in Suhl, Germany.

The reigning NCAA smallbore national champion finished his week of shooting at one of the premier world junior matches on a strong note, taking sixth place overall out of 66 shooters in the men's 50-meter, three-position match on Friday.

"Competing in Germany with the best junior shooters in the world was a new and exciting experience," Sherry said. "I learned a lot over here and I'm ready to use that knowledge in upcoming matches this summer and next season."

Sherry, who was the lone American junior shooter in the 3P event, fired an 1166 during the 120-shot (3x40) qualifying match to position himself third for the individual final which he would eventually place sixth in.

Russia's Vladimir Maslennikov, who was one point back of Sherry in qualifying, won the final. The final consisted of eight shooters representing six nations. Aside from the U.S. and Russia, the other six shooters hailed from Germany, Finland, Austria and Denmark.

Sherry, who will be a junior this upcoming NCAA rifle season, also shot in two other events in Suhl, as he partook in the men's prone and air rifle matches.

In the 50-meter prone event, Sherry finished 27th overall out the 70 shooters in the field after he fired a 60-shot score of 614.6, which fell 5.4 short of qualifying for the final. He also placed 44th out of 94 shooters in the 10-meter air rifle match with a qualifying score of 611.5 in 60 shots.
