MURRAY, Ky. – Following its highest team finish in four years with a national runner-up finish at the NCAA Rifle Championships, the Alaska rifle team had four of its shooters recognized as All-Americans at the post-championships banquet Saturday night at Murray State University.
 
The Nanooks tallied 10 combined All-America accolades between the National Rifle Association Collegiate All-America Team and the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association All-America Team, sponsored by Lapua.
 
Juniors Ryan Anderson (Great Falls, Va./Biological Sciences) and Mats Eriksson (Malung, Sweden/Business Administration) and sophomores Tim Sherry (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mechanical Engineering) and Lorelie Stanfield (Fairbanks, Alaska/English) were all named NRA First Team All-Americans in smallbore.
 
Anderson and Sherry also garnered NRA First Team status in air rifle while Eriksson was a Second Team air gun member.
 
In its inaugural year of handing out the award, the CRCA named both Anderson and Sherry CRCA First Team All-Americans and Eriksson was a Second Team All-America selection. Unlike the NRA awards, the CRCA All-America program combines the smallbore and air rifle scores to make up one team.
 
In addition, Anderson and Sherry were also named to the United States Shooting National Development Team. Anderson turned in the highest smallbore average during the collegiate season and Sherry qualified based on his individual national title at the NCAA Championships last Friday.
 
The NCAA shooting season may be over but numerous Nanooks will continue to shoot competitively in the future months. From March 26 until April 3, Anderson, Sherry and senior Mike Liuzza (New Orleans, La./Business Administration) will compete at the World Cup USA in Fort Benning, Ga.
 
Anderson will shoot in the air gun and three-position events, Sherry is entered in the three-position match and Liuzza is schedule to compete in the prone match. Competing for his home country of Sweden, Eriksson is also entered in World Cup USA and will shoot in the three-position and air gun matches.
