COLUMBUS, Ohio – There was a vision head coach
Dan Jordan had when the Alaska rifle program joined a conference for the first time in team history this season and on Sunday it didn't take long for that vision to take effect.
The third-ranked Nanooks were the class of the field for the second straight day and they fired a team total 4702 to capture the 2014 Patriot Rifle Conference championship at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range on the campus of Ohio State.
Alaska's total team score tied its program record, matching the 4702 it shot back on Nov. 23, 2013, at home to defeat then-No. 1 Kentucky.
A day ago, Alaska shot a 2339 in smallbore and tacked on a 2363 in air rifle Sunday to claim the program's first conference title by 53 points over the United States Air Force Academy, which finished with a 4649 (2303 SB, 2346 AR).

Ryan Anderson (Great Falls, Va./Biological Sciences), who was the PRC smallbore champion yesterday, fired a match-best 596 in air gun and would go on to take runner-up honors in the individual final.

Sophomore
Lorelie Stanfield (Fairbanks, Alaska/English) was Alaska's final shooter to count towards the team total with a 586, ranking 11th in the PRC while senior
Mike Liuzza (New Orleans, La./Business Administration) tallied a 585, tying for 12th (14th based on center shots).
Texas Christian's
Sally Li turned in the second-highest air gun score with a 595 and Air Force's
Meredith Carpentier, who would win the air rifle individual title in the final had the third-best score with a 592.
Following PRC champion Alaska and runner-up Air Force was TCU in third, host OSU in fourth and Nevada in the fifth position.
