FAIRBANKS – Sagen Maddalena was one point off of a perfect score in the air rifle and the No. 7 nationally ranked Alaska Nanook rifle team shot an all-time team high in the air rifle as it defeated No. 5 Nebraska, 4700-4657 on Sunday.
"It was another good day for us," said head coach Dan Jordan. "To shoot an all-time team high in the air rifle is pretty impressive when you look at some of the teams we've had in the past."
Maddalena led the way for the Nanooks in the air rifle, as she shot a 599, only missing out on a perfect score in her final shot. Ryan Anderson was also impressive as he posted a score of 595.
"Sagen was awesome today in the air gun," remarked Jordan. "Ryan was solid in both guns as well."
Anderson was the team's top performer in the smallbore portion, as he shot a 584. Right behind him, with a score of 583 was Soren Butler, who also contributed 589 in the air rifle.
Tim Sherry produced fine showings in both the air rifle and smallbore, as he scored 593 in the air and 579 in the smallbore. Lorelie Stanfield rounded out the air rifle competition for the Nanooks with a score of 589 and contributed 578 points in the smallbore.
Mats Eriksson, who beat his previous season high for combined totals on Friday, also scored for the Nanooks in the smallbore, with a tally of 576.
Kasey Barnes' mark of 574 in the smallbore was another personal best.
Nebraska was led by Rachel Martin, who was only overshadowed by Maddalena in the air rifle, as she shot just three off a perfect score, at 597. Kelsey Hansen was the Cornhuskers' top performer in the smallbore with a score of 583.
Alaska is now idle until January when it travels to the great state of Ohio to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State and the Akron Zips on January 11 and 13.
