FAIRBANKS – Facing the No. 2 team in the nation, the No. 7 nationally ranked Alaska Nanook rifle team produced an impressive display in earning a 4,693-4,665 victory over the visiting Wildcats.
Alaska, who tied its team record in the air rifle portion of competition, was led by Lorelie Stanfield, who shot a personal best 596 in the air rifle. Stanfield also contributed 575 points in the smallbore.
"Today was a good day," said head coach Dan Jordan. "The team tied its record in the air rifle and several of our shooters set personal bests."
Ryan Anderson was Alaska's top performer in the smallbore competition as he shot a 585, while also scoring 593 in the air rifle. Sagen Maddalena shot a 594 in the air rifle portion while shooting a 580 in the smallbore.
Tim Sherry and Soren Butler rounded out the scoring Nanooks as Sherry shot a 587 (air) and a 580 (smallbore) and Butler contributed 583 points in the air rifle portion and 578 in smallbore.
Not scoring, but still having impressive days were Jaimie and Kasey Barnes, as they each shot a personal best in the air rifle (583 and 587). K. Barnes also had a personal best in the smallbore at 574.
Alaska will next take on the No. 5 nationally ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday.
