FAIRBANKS – Looking to defeat California State East Bay for the first time in its history, the Alaska swimming team lost in dramatic and heartbreaking fashion on Friday evening at the Patty Pool by a 105-100 tally.
The meet came down to the final relay, which was unfortunately won by Cal State East Bay's 200 yard freestyle relay team by two-tenths of second.
Alaska won six events, including five individual races, en route to their 100 points. Martha Hood won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.30. The Adams sisters also took home individual wins, as Victoria Adams won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:10.99 and Margot Adams won the 100 yard butterfly in 57.26 seconds. That time qualified as an NCAA "B" Cut.
Katie Stark and Nga Nguyen rounded out the individual wins with respective top-place finishes in the 100 yard freestyle (53.92) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:06.87).
V. Adams, Nguyen, M. Adams and Stark also won the 400 yard medley relay to open the meet, with a time of 3:56.46.
The Nanooks have a shot of redemption tomorrow morning, as they take on Cal State East Bay, again, at 9:30 a.m. at the Patty Pool.
