Head coach Dan Jordan was pleased with the victory, but knows his team can improve as the season progresses. "We're not where we want to be right now, but it's early in the season and we are building," he stated. "There is a lot of room for easy points and we will make a jump soon."

Jordan was also impressed with some of his youngsters, and knows that they will continue to motivate the team to improve.

"We're starting to get some more depth on the team with freshmen Kasey Barnes and Luke Johnson," said Jordan. "This is really going to force some of the veterans to step up as their starting positions are no longer guaranteed."

Alaska will have to rely on its youngster on its road trip to Texas next weekend, as both Ryan Anderson and Sherry will be competing in the Championships of the Americas (CATs games). Anderson missed this weekend's matches as he was trying to earn an Olympic Quota spot for the United States.

The Nanooks will take on the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) and Texas Christian University (TCU) next weekend. The match against UTEP is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 and against TCU at the same time the next day.
