FAIRBANKS – Junior
Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) of the Alaska men's skiing team has been named the Era Alaska Nanook of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5, as selected by the Alaska media relations office.
Hanneman earned the first Nanook of the Week award for 2014 after leading the team in a pair of races over the weekend at the 2014 United States Nationals in Midway, Utah.
On Saturday, the two-time NCAA qualifier finished 24th overall out of 198 racers and second among NCAA Central Region skiers in the 15-kilometer classic race with a time of 41 minutes, 17.4 seconds.
He followed that performance up by qualifying for the championship final the following afternoon in the 1.5K free technique skate sprint race, where he would finish fifth, including second among NCAA collegians. After qualifying 21st in the preliminary race, he captured the 12th and final spot in the semifinals after taking fourth in his quarterfinal heat. He proceeded to take second place in the semis to put him in the "A" final.
He was one of three Fairbanks natives to qualify for the big final, as he was joined by his brother
Reese Hanneman from APU and
Jordan Buetow out of Bates.
