MIDWAY, Utah – Juniors
Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Civil Engineering) and
Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business Administration) both turned in top-40 finishes in Alaska's first day of racing at the 2014 United States Nationals Saturday at Soldier Hollow.
Hanneman, a two-time NCAA qualifier, was the top Nanook to cross the finish line as he completed the 15-kilometer classic race in 41 minutes, 17.4 seconds for 24th place. Hanneman was the second NCAA Central Region racer to complete the course.
Löffler, who is also a returning NCAA competitor, came in second for Alaska with a 36th-place showing with a mark of 42:15.0, which ranked fourth among region competitors.
Four others completed the 15K race out of the 198 on the course. Redshirt sophomore
Kenneth Brewer (Chugiak, Alaska/Biological Sciences) was third for the Nanooks in 76th place with a time of 44:02.9. Senior
Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Business Administration) took 78th in 44:12.3, followed by redshirt freshman
Isaac Lammers (Eagle River, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering), who crossed the line in 44:15.2, good for 80th.
Rounding out the field for Alaska was redshirt sophomore
Stefan Hajdukovich (Fairbanks, Alaska/Business Administration), who took 141st with a clocked time of 47:33.6. Sophomore
Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) did not finish the CCSA-opening event.
Alaska will be back on the trails tomorrow morning in Utah to race in a 1.5K free skate sprint.
