CABLE, Wis. – Sophomore skier
Michael Fehrenbach (Saint Märgen, Germany/Mechanical Engineering) concluded Alaska's weekend at the Telemark Distance Series with a triumph in the men's 10-kilometer classic race on Sunday.
Fehrenbach, who overcame sickness from a week ago, crossed the finish line first in 27 minutes, 12.7 seconds, claiming the individual gold by 1.4 seconds over Northern Michigan's
Kyle Bratrud, who clocked a time of 27:14.1.
The win was the German's first since Feb. 23, 2013, when he won the same race at last season's NCAA Central Region Championship, but his time today was more than three minutes faster than his championship performance at the region race.
Junior
Jonas Löffler (Saint Märgen, Germany/Business Administration) was the Nanooks' second racer to finish the 10K as he placed fifth with a time of 27:44.8. Junior
Logan Hanneman (Fairbanks, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) rounded out Alaska's top-10 performances with a seventh-place showing in 27:55.4.
Senior
Max Olex (Aalen, Germany/Business Administration) was just outside the top 10 in 11th after turning in a time of 28:23.7. Freshman
Isaac Lammers (Eagle River, Alaska/Mechanical Engineering) was 25th overall and 22nd in the collegiate race in 29:35.3 while sophomore
Stefan Hajdukovich (Fairbanks, Alaska/Business Administration) completed Alaska's day on the trails in 40th place overall and 30th by collegians with a mark of 30:36.8.
The Nanooks will take a week off from competition before heading to Ishpeming, Mich., for the 2014 Central Collegiate Ski Association Championship, which will take place Feb. 8-9 at the Al Quaal Cross Country Trails.
